Why it's hot: The mystery of guessing the designers for each hot design kept us intrigued, although somewhat confused. The legal battle over the rights to Runway between Weinstein Company and Bravo left onlookers unable to place any of the talented designers with a their collection. Great clothing was left unnamed and more unfortunately unofferable to excited fashionistas.

The key trends, colors, shapes: tight and fitted pants and tops, gathering, jet black leathers, neutral tones, mini and floor-length hem lines, ultra tailored jackets, romantic gowns, silks, chiffons…all we can say is to each designer his own.

Why it's hot: 19th century hand-tinted Japanese photographs were inspirations for this designer who showed with cherry blossom details and kimono swirls throughout this collection.

The key trends, colors and shapes: Layering, tailored jackets, and silky trousers aroused; effervescent furs and of course cardigans were seen in this collection. Bright bold colors played a key role in this line, assuring people that this late economic crisis was not going to dull fashion.

Celeb Spotting: Anna Wintour was slotted for seat A-1-9 but did not show. Hmm...

We caught up with Adam Lippes to discuss his influences, find out who the Adam customer is and to see what the future holds for this designer.

FACTIO MAGAZINE: What kind of influence did Oscar de la Renta have on you in your career? (Adam was the youngest person to hold the creative director title at Oscar from '96 to '04)
ADAM LIPPES: I learned everything about fashion at Oscar. I spent so much time with Oscar from marketing to the advertising to the collection. I am so honored and fortunate to say that I have learned from him and not only about fashion. He's very much a Renaissance man. He's so much about art, so much about philanthropy, so much about giving, about being that person that he's known to be. And he's such a gentleman.

FM: Who is the Adam customer?
AL: I'd like to think it's quintessential, universal, everybody. If there's one thing in everyone's wardrobe, it's a tee-shirt and a pair of jeans. It's so much a foundation. I think our customers appreciate refined, yet stylish clothes and clothes can really take you anywhere, from day to night.

FM: Describe your signature style. Does it match your work?
AL: My signature style is very, very similar. A great pair of pants and a white tee-shirt and of course a great sweater; a lot of cotton, that's my style now. It's very much me. I have to be happy wearing it.

FM: What does global style mean to you?
AL: I think fashion today is global in every which way. It carries itself throughout. The customer is so educated today.

FM: What's one thing that people are surprised to know about you?
AL: Probably that I have a farm upstate and I love going up there to really chill and relax and that my true passion in life is art. I love being surrounded by art.

FM: How do you stay on trend? Is it just a gut thing that you're always on mark?
AL: It is a gut; you just feel it, especially being in New York City in the fashion capital of the world in this industry everyday.

FM: What do you think about Chicago style?
AL: I love Chicago as a city, actually I was there a while back when I was on Oprah...she is extraordinary...that was definitely a highlight of my career. So I spent some time in Chicago, those stores are incredible. Shopping in Chicago is amazing, it's such a great city!

FM: Where do you see Adam, the brand, in the future?
AL: I really want to be a major American brand. Stand-alone stores are really important to me. I want to be the designer collection in the contemporary market.

FACTIO MAGAZINE: Who is the “Nicole Miller” woman?
NICOLE MILLER: She is the girl on the go, the mother, the daughter with an active lifestyle. Career woman or busy with family, she always has a lot going on in her life.

FM: Give us an inside look at Nicole Miller as a company and at your career as a designer.
NM: With degrees from Chambre Syndicale Haute Couture School and RISD, I have both an art and fashion education, which has been instrumental in creating my prints and my clothing.

FM: Describe your signature style. Does it match the style of the clothes you design?
NM: Absolutely, but my style is very subtle. I don’t make loud statements and garish clothing. I go for a pretty approach with understated details.

FM: What does global style mean to you?
NM: The world is much smaller with the internet and everything is more accessible.

FM: Do you have any style icons?
NM: Twiggy.

FM: What tips do you give women when wearing your designs? Do you have any rules as far as fashion is concerned?
NM: Wear what suits your body type. Stay away from the item of the moment. It goes out of style too quickly.

FM: What is your most memorable moment to date in your career?
NM: My first fashion show with every top model from Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Yasmin Le Bon and Naomi Campbell.

FM: What key fashion pieces do you always have in your wardrobe? What key pieces should every woman have in her wardrobe?
NM: Basic black pieces to interact with everything else. A Perfect black skirt, perfect fitting pants, cashmere wrap and black tank tops.

FM: Which woman has impeccable style and why on an international level?
NM: Cate Blanchett and Sheryl Crow.

FM: What is your biggest fashion vice?
NM: Shoes like everyone else. Also black tank tops.

FM: What are your favorite shops worldwide?
NM: Leo in Miami, 0044 in Paris, Handle with Care in Chicago and Calypso in the Meatpacking District in New York.

FM: What do you love about Chicago style?
NM: I am always impressed by the avant-garde style of Chicago women. They are receptive to the most forward fashion.

FM: What are your favorite places to travel?
NM: Jamaica, Miami, Tokyo, Dubai.

FM: Do you think money and style go hand in hand or can style never be bought? Is it something you just have?
NM: Absolutely not. I have seen better style with no money than with. People that have too many options can not be selective.

FACTIO MAGAZINE: When did you realize you wanted to be a designer?
RACHEL ROY: Ever since I was a little girl I knew I always wanted to be in fashion. I didn't know if that was going to be in the way of a magazine editor, fashion designer, a stylist, or buyer. But it's something I've always had a passion for, passed my time. You know something that little girls can buy, or boys for that matter too, are fashion magazines. No matter how much money you have, you have three dollars. I still have some of my Vogues from my childhood and I actually use them today in referencing collections. And you'll have to cut me off because I could go on and on. Do you know how expensive Vogues are from the '80s and everything?

FM: I know it's good. I like to reference.
RR: Yeah, Yeah, good ideas.
FM: It pains me to throw them away.
RR: The Vogues I can't.
FM: I just can't either and you know some that go out like Top Model magazine from ten years ago.
RR: Oh my god, you still have Top Model! I still have Top Model at home where I grew up, but it's probably in the basement. Now I'm jealous. I totally forgot about Top Model. Now I'm going to be obsessed with getting them back and my dad's not going to get them. I'm so glad you reminded me about Top Model.

FM: Who is the Rachel Roy Woman?
RR: I design for the woman I aspire to be. We're complex and we're so many different things. We're strong and we're caretakers and we're feminine and we're modern.

FM: What are people surprised to know about you?
RR: I don't know (laughs). A lot. I enjoy my bed. I like sleeping. I like reading in bed. I love Project Runway. I watch it with my 8-year-old. I mean, I'm a fairly normal woman. I don't know if that's a surprise or not.

Why it's hot: He described his collection as ‘dark and romantic’ and as ‘luxury goods for cool people’. That answer makes him and his collection hot!

The key trends, colors, shapes: Metal pin-studs decorated a handbag, a leather jacket, and pumps; stovepipe leather pants and tights pushed into skintight leather over-the-knee boots; exposed zippers traipsed down the backbone of skirts and dresses. Standout looks included a one-sleeved, eighties-inspired, bright purple dress; roomy cocoon coats; and a few dresses with structured futuristic shoulders.

Why it's hot: According to reports, “The Heart Truth features a red dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness. This symbol links a woman’s focus on her ‘outer self’ to the need to also focus on her ‘inner self’ and her heart.” It was hot of course because celebrities walked the runway in their red creations.

The key trends, colors, shapes: Red, red, red! Everyone interpreted this color slightly different. From long and straight, to short and petticoat-ish, we saw it all!

Celeb Spotting: Vivica A. Fox, Hilary Duff, Jennie Garth, Katie Couric, Nia Long, Daisy Fuentes, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow, Tori Spelling were a few of the celebs we spotted making their way to the tent/on the runway.

Islands of the World Fashion Week: Day 4

It's day 4 of Islands of the World Fashion Week in Nassau and we couldn't be more pleased with what we have seen in the past few days. Founder Owen Bethal created an amazing week of style in the Bahamas that also supported social awareness. "My brief experience at UNESCO in Paris highlighted the fact that designers from developing countries, and particularly island nations required a central showcase to expose their creativity to international markets," said Bethal. And, all of this rang true at the closing reception at the Atlantis. The awards presentation praised designers who use eco-friendly materials in their design, as well as designer Kenneth Cole, who was awarded for his efforts in raising social and political awareness in his ad campaigns. He showed a six-piece collection for both men and women. At the closing show, Los Angeles-based designer Kevan Hall showed an amazing collection devoted to the inspiration of Africa.

Islands of the World Fashion Week: Day 3

It's day 3 of Islands of the World Fashion Week and the first show featured the work of designer Harl Taylor, who passed away last year, but whose work lives on through his mother Beverly Taylor. An amazing assortment of handbags, totes and clutches made their way down the runway, each more stunning than the next. Some were more casual for a day on the beach and others could easily hold essentials for an island soiree. We can see why his bags sold at Bergdoff in New York.

Kuumba Designs from designer St. Lucia could be virtually worn anywhere. Her gorgeous cocktail frocks were stunning in colors of orange, pink, and our favorite - grey. We would love to wear any of her cocktail dresses to a party in Chicago!

The stars of the night were former Project Runway contestant Nick Verreos and David Paul of Nikolaki. The duo showed off their newest collection to a packed house. Verreos told us that his collection of crimson red silk gowns and salmon pink strapless cocktail dresses was inspired by the Mexican Cinema and the glamour that went with it.

Islands of the World Fashion Week: Day 2

It's day 2 of Islands of the World Fashion Week in Nassau and we are getting an early start to the shows. Impressed by the first show of the day, Luna Designs by Glora Plata showed tremendous craftsmanship of the art of accessories on the runway. The company and products are completely conscious with the environment, using vegetable ivory that used to be used in the 18th century to make buttons. Now they use it in a different way to make accessories. The outcome- gorgeous necklaces, bracelets and rings with unique shapes that are in every sense environmentally friendly. The vibrant colors include yellows, turquoise and pinks created in vibrant colors with eco-friendly vegetable dyes. We loved the oversized rings so much, we bought one for ourselves in turquoise!

We adored the collection from Nadya designer Nadine Lurey, as the pairings of her separates and techniques of her use of texture and lush color was extremely unique. Originally from Chicago, Nadine began designing by venturing to the Salvation Army to get interesting fabrics like lace curtains and transforming it into a coat. She then began traveling around the world to places like South America before moving to Bali where inspiration has undoubtedly taken a firm standing in her collections. "I actually always like to say that I cook with leftovers because I love putting elements together and when I was first working with materials they were old textiles and pieces that had finite quantity, so I learned to mix and match and do things with kind of a texture and layering technique." Our favorite of her worldy creations were her textured jackets, many of which were reversible with one side revealing a fancy side, while the other was far more casual. Just by wearing one of her pieces, you will appear to look well-traveled.

Hupfeld Hoerder, a designer from Fiji, really brought island style to life with his unique hand painted dresses and separates. His designs are inspired by nature and his bright motifs and patterns set his style apart during fashion week.

Islands of the World Fashion Week: Day 1

We've just landed in Nassau, Bahamas and we are ready to see 38 of the world island's most talented designers at the first ever Islands of the World Fashion Week! Over the span of 4 days, 21 shows will take place at a transformed space at the British Colonial Hilton, as well as the opening and closing reception at The Atlantis on Paradise Island. As we arrived for the closing night show at the Atlantis on November 5th, we couldn't have been more impressed with what we saw. The space was designed and produced by a former Versace executive Tomas Frenes, so you can imagine the chicness of the set up, including a sophisticated color scheme of a black runway, flanked by black chairs with comfortable sofa's for fashionistas in the back to enjoy the shows comfortably. At the Hilton, the design was just as savvy with countless chandeliers acting as a focal point to the sleek white and black runway. At closing night, we enjoyed an array of eco-friendly designs from island designers, as well as a sleek collection by famed designer of NOIR Illuminati II. Danish designer Peter Ingwersen showcased a brilliant collection of sexy dresses and pantsuits in sensuous fabrics. He has said before "in the West, we dress for sex" and this collection was no different. The colors were in neutral tones of black and white, and Factio favorite, a satiny, hot pink form fitting dress. Celebrity judges we spotted front row included Nole Marin from America's Next Top Model, Aphadi, a famed Paris fashion designer originally from Niger, Susan Stein of Palm Springs, California, Nick Verreos of Project Runway fame, who designs the Nikolaki collection.

Designers who participated in shows earlier that day at the Hilton included Sea, Sex, Sun from Haiti, Van Der Vlugt from Trinidad, Christine Demeritte and Apryl Weech from The Bahamas, Heather Jones from Trinidad, Soka, Poshelle, Tami B. Designs, and Deb E. Barbour from St. Vincent.

On Day 5 of Lakme Fashion Week Pretti Chandra showed a very feminine and unique collection for Spring and Summer 2009. While at first glance Chandra’s collection may seem better suited for the runway a few years ago with her bohemian inspired silhouettes, a second look reveals a very sophisticated collection with beautiful detail. With East European inspired embroidery, a beautiful fusion of influences brought a collection with pieces suited for the woman with diverse points of view. You will enjoy the bright colors so much that you won’t be able to wait for Spring to get your hands on these wonderfully crafted pieces.

Priyya and Chintan

The designing pair Priyya and Chintan brought not only high fashion to the runway at Lakme Fashion Week, but also created pieces of walking art. From casual to formal wear to menswear, Priyya and Chintans’ show was a spectacle of color, fabric, and design. They mixed and matched, created frills, and dressed their models like they were walking canvases stunning pieces. While their collection may not be the ideal for running around town in, the more bold American women will love take everyone’s breath at the next formal event.

For the finale of Lakme Fashion Week, Sabyasachi Mukherjee showed a collection of bridal wear, introducing the Lakme Bridal Sutra line. Taking inspiration from traditional Indian weddings and rituals, Mukherjee created a masterpiece of a collection for bride, groom, and children alike. The color palette was a myriad of colors—all muted so they could be mixed and matched beautifully—inspired by Indian jewels. Even if you are not having a traditional Indian wedding (or even a wedding!), definitely check out Mukherjee’s collection for a unique fashion experience.

Sailex

Sailex brought a very unique collection to the fourth day of Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. Satin, chiffon, and georgette brought a very feminine touch to the collection which any girl would love to wear, or at least to look at. The colors of the collection included pastels like peach, purple, and a neutral ivory which was balanced with a beautiful silky grey. The fabrics and colors made for very beautiful pieces often detailed with braided fabric. Our only concern with the collection: a whole outfit of satin may not be very flattering on every woman.

Vivek Kumar brought a very appealing casual wear collection to Lakme Fashion Week. Simple silhouettes were a base for interesting dresses that many women can wear. A refreshing balance between classic lines and elaborate details made for a great show. Kumar used colors that complimented each other very nicely, such as orange, coffee, black, teal, and khaki. Gold detailing on almost every piece in the collection gave a touch of elegance to the whole collection.

Abdul Halder

Abdul Halder showed a bridal collection very different from what he normally creates. Instead of designing gowns for women and suits for men that appeal to Western countries, he brought Mumbai a collection influenced by traditional Indian apparel. With a color palette of bright pinks, purples, greens, and blues, his collection was a far and refreshing cry from his previous collections. If you are looking to have an Indian or Indian themed wedding, Abdul Halder has everything you will want to wear this Spring and Summer 2009.

Stoffa by Prianka, Malini & Hersh
Stoffa brought India a spectacular accessories collection including unique shoes and colorful bags. Four different sections of the show with names as cute as the accessories composed the show on Wednesday in Mumbai. Each section varied themes and colors, but each brought something different to the show. From shoes and bags with the same bright prints to funky metalics, Stoffa brought a wide range of influences and elements to the runway.

Dev R Nil / Zubair Kirmani
These two designers brought two different menswear collections to Lakme Fashion Week. Dev R Nil tried to appeal to the contemporary male with a collection entitled “The Jigsaw.” The collection was comprised of some unusual fabric pairings and a jigsaw motif. Zubair Kirmani wanted to create a collection for the “Glocal Male.” In effect his collection created several looks for the man who wants an outfit he can wear in any part of the world he travels to in the length of a day.

Narendra Kumar
Narendra Kumar proved that politically charged minds are all over the world today. The collection was titled “The Rise of Fascism” to bring attention to the violence occurring around the world. Narendra Kumar created some very interesting and diverse pieces that you would likely see people sporting in the city of Chicago. While most of the palette consisted of deep colors like black, grey and crimson, bright colors reminded us that the collection was in fact very high fashion. With a standing ovation, “The Rise of Fascism” brought attention not only violence around the world, but to alternative high fashion.

“My Village” by Rimzim Dadu
This week Rimzim Dadu showcased a line that every woman would love to wear. Beautifully constructed dresses and skirts dominated the runway that put some more famous American designers to shame. The “My Village” color palette consisted of black, grey, and white, in addition to a red theme, and vibrant blues. As the collection evolved with each piece, colors changed and pieces became more interesting. Our favorite pieces were ones with intricate detailing and those that displayed and absolute mastery of fabric construction.

Nalandda Bhandari
With a mix of whimsical silhouettes and straight lines, Nalandda Bhandari created a diverse and beautiful collection. The pieces invoked a feeling of romance on the runway. Pieces with ruffles and layering were balanced by straight, simple lines in other designs. Light and airy fabrics like chiffon created multifaceted looks. Bhandari featured looks ranging from casual to formal, so you can pick a different piece for every occasion.

Anupama Dayal
Anupama Dayal created a beautiful collection as she combined more traditional Indian prints with contemporary silhouettes. Her pieces were complex and included many different design elements. A palette of neutral colors was highlighted by warm yellow gold, orange reds, and variations of purple and pink. Anand Kabra
Anand Cabra created a collection that every woman will swoon at. His silhouettes were extremely feminine and soft, which complemented the other elements in his collection. Yellow gold, steel grey, and deep pink reds were used in perfect measure. Many of his pieces incorporated tye-dying which created a lovely variation in color. His pieces will definitely make you warm up as you think of Spring and Summer while cold sets in.

with fashions all the way into next spring. Monday, October 20, 2008 kicked off day one of Lakme Fashion Week at the National Center of Performing Arts in Mumbai. Talented designers showcased hot designs that made us all nostalgic for the hot summer sun. So forget winter, and keep up with Lakme Fashion Week all week long from October 20 -24, 2008.

Nachiket Barve manipulated his fabrics into colorful geometric masterpieces for his Spring/Summer 2009 collection. The beautifully bright and lovely draped combinations are enough to give any woman the confidence to make a great fashion statements for seasons to come.

Nikasha Tawadey muted colors and played up flowing volume for her “Shisheer” collection Spring/Summer 2009. The “Big Look” line will keep wearers chic and cool from hot summer days to sweltering summer nights.

Nachiket Barve

Krishna Mehta pumped vibrant colors into her “Sunrise in the Desert Sands” Spring/Summer 2009 collection. The collection was one of bold hues and iridescent tones mixed into hand woven and embellished western silhouettes. The highlight of the show featured actor Samir Dattani in a silk sherwani and TV turned Bollywood star, Prachi Desai in a red long chiffon gown on the runway.

Narendar Kumar and Sunsilk created the hair style and fashion fantasy for the Lakme Fashion Week. Global hair expert for Sunsilk from the UK, Andrew Barton, featured curls, straight, and extremely layered styles for Narendar’s latest label “Nari Nari”, that targets the trendy young women of the country.

The aim of the Nadya collection is to allow an outer reflection of an inner voice, creating timeless clothing beyond trends. We blend Asian and Western influences, creative and flexible, fabrics and techniques enhance each other. We use fabrics that dazzle the gods and a focus on function and comfort that are an unbeatable combination. It is in that spirit that we remain focused on producing limited edition unique pieces.

Jeannie McQueeny

My design style is resort-oriented. Whether yachting through the beautiful Bahamian waters, or reclining in an elegant Swiss Chalet, the emphasis is on luxurious fabrics with exquisite craftsmanship and clothes that translate easily from one resort to another. The aim is to create clothes that are easy to wear, yet elegant, and always flattering. I love the idea of showing my designs at home!

It has a romanticism and 1840's colonial theme to it, which shows fashion is a evolution as such as a revolution.

In Memory of designer Harl Taylor:

We would like to dedicate this post to Harl Taylor Jr., designer of Harl Taylor BAG, from the Bahamas who unfortunately passed away in November of 2007. The designer studied at a Parson's branch in Paris and sold his coveted handbags at Bergdoff in New York. He split his time between Nassau and Palm Beach and he will be greatly missed by friends, family and the design community. His memory will be lived on as his bags will be showcased through Islands of the World Fashion Week this November.

Milan and Paris couture took our breath away in a sweep of sheer, fringe, and satin. Spring 2009 will combine flowing florals, snappy suits, amazing accessories, and see-through everythings.

Milan gave way to Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Gucci, Jil Sander, Marni, Versace and Alessandro Dell’Acqua; all the while Paris paraded designers like Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana Men’s combined satin suits and separates with hard outlines for a sophisticated sleek look. The collection of black, white, and gray incorporated everything from bow ties to men’s short shorts. D&G pushed menswear past its comfort zone in a most elegant fashion. The men’s collection concluded with all the male models walking the runway in all white satin suits.

However, the purity of the D&G men’s collection couldn’t be more opposite of the women’s collection on the color spectrum. The Dolce & Gabbana Women’s show was titled “Pajama Baroque,” in which models portrayed one woman’s elaborate fashion dreams once fallen asleep in her boyfriend’s pajamas. The collection consisted of lavish satins, languid lines, and show- stopping brocades with bold shoulders.

While D&G was dreaming, Fendi was floating. Airy layers upon layers of chiffons created floaty fashions without being too see-through in the wrong places. Fendi ingeniously incorporated laser cut laces and transparent furs on top of their splendid stilettos. Fendi wasn’t the only designer that challenged cuts and textures. Marni layered different fabrics and shapes to create unique and colorful daytime looks.

Gucci threw their collection of witty suits, low slung trousers, and fedora combination through a kaleidoscope of color for their Spring 2009 collection. Bright colors boomed and let neutral hues pop for “Gucci Exotica.”

Fringe was huge in Milan and Paris this season, and seen in so many different ways. Challenge your style and try different fringe for all occasions. Stringy fringe and sequins takes us back to the 1920’s flapper, while suede and leathers give a sense of modern earthy style. While others clung to fringe, Versace caught up on their mathematics, making geometry their favorite subject line. The tiny and taut clothing played up geometric shapes and tightened up waist lines. Fabrics ranged from matte to shiny to bejeweled. Hearts, industrial zippers, and collaged Versace iconography prints encompassed the heart of the decadent collection.

Marc Jacobs incorporated Asian and African inspirations into his new French Chic collection. The more the merrier when it came to fabrics, details, and accessories this Spring '09. Extravagant feathers, adorable polka dots, and gauzy hems wowed Vuitton fanatics. The collection, which is very economically incorrect for its time, was made to create a diversion from the struggling economy and make people feel good.

“When man became more powerful than nature the damage really started” – Alexander McQueen’s earth friendly and machine raged collection is a bit of earth inspired florals and rock formation prints, with a twist of dark and dreary industrial colored fashions as well. The industrial side of the collection is a bit of a lackluster, but the animal and earthy inspired clothing pops and shines.

Lanvin is bold, audacious, and provocative with jewel tones. Not only is the collection wildly voluptuous, but retail and reality friendly as well. Lanvin designer, Alber Elbaz, has really created a winning Spring collection.

Mui Mui hit an off note in Paris this season with graffiti and pleated '80s looks. The '80s are back, but everyone is really focusing on the glitz and glam and trying to forget the grudges of the early 90’s. Glam was left up to the wonderful John Galliano. His flimsy silks, drop waists, ruffles, pretty floral prints, and sheer gowns are very wearable. His collection was one very set into reality, with the exception of his model’s British guard, pirate, and whimsical figure inspired head wear. But after all, this is a runway show – so let the games go on, as long as Galliano’s clothing stays this wonderful.

London Fashion Week: Afshin Feiz

Of all of the shows during London Fashion Week this season, Afshin Feiz was definitely a crowd pleaser. This was by far one of our favorite collections of his to date. He has shown that his work is romantic and feminine, and with this collection it was no exception, as it was utterly enchanting. He used very flirty fabrics, with airy palettes with pastel shades and fluid silks, silver chiffon's, all created beautifully. In some dresses he used chains in the back and detailing of applique to contrast the lighter shades of fabric. The collection was fun and most of his pieces were very contemporary. Like most of the shows we have seen this season, many designers used a great deal of ruffles and pleats to add a bit of sexiness to their collections. He also showed his eveningwear, with most of the dresses being very '50s inspired. This was one of our favorites from London Fashion Week!

London Fashion Week: Penkov

The Berlin born designer, Penkov, showcased her collection during London Fashion week, proving that even the simplest of airy-fabrics work wonders. Her dresses were very flirty, just the ultimate of every girl's wardrobe. She merely focused on simplicity, except for the stunning baby-blue shorts with oyster pockets, paired with sheer transparent cotton blouse which looked very lovely on the runway. Temperley has proved again that she has got it all in arms this season. It was no surprise that her loyal followers gathered to celebrate the return to the London catwalk after six seasons in New York. Among the starlets were Jacquetta Wheeler, Laura Bailey, Rosamund Pike, Mischa Barton, Lara Bohinc, Alice Dellal, Alexa Chung and Peaches Geldof, who it seems were in most of the front rows in London Fashion Week, so far this season. Her collection was stunning, oozing with sex appeal. We saw lots of party pieces, huge bows on the shoulder, very structured ornamented pieces on the hair, just simply beautiful. Temperley matched white silky tops with wide-legged trousers, which gave the look of a more romantic feel. The collection itself was breezy and easy. The use of leather and chunky leather belts with stars gave simple looks an edgy biker look.

One word to describe Luella Bartley's show for London Fashion Week this season was that she went for a more mature, upper royal style. We must admit, it was more suited for a lady going to a garden party. Luella likes to have fun with her clothes as the colours were bright and she splashed on florals which stood out a great deal. We saw lots of huge pearls swung around the neck, lovely cashmere cardigans and huge satin hair bows. There were also lots of frills, ruffles on both skirts and dresses. Pieces included ruched chiffon mini-dresses swung tight on one shoulder paired with very dramatic head-dresses like usual. She put back that eccentric vibe we had always known her for. The collection was very sweet and energetic.

On the third day of London Fashion Week, Hilary Riva, chief executive of the British Fashion Council (BFC) held a crisis talk with rivals in Paris, New York, and Milan regarding the possible interference with London Fashion Week next year.

According to Reuters, A BFC spokeswoman said New York (which precedes London) would like to change its dates and have an eight-day fashion week. This would leave London with only four days before Milan's fashion week would begin.

"We're being squeezed in the middle,"a BFC spokeswoman told Reuters. She went on to say that New York would also like to change its dates to avoid the Labor Day holiday and late summer when Italian garment factories are on holiday. In the past this has caused making the production of samples for the spring/summer shows difficult.

With London Fashion Week currently bringing in around 100 million pounds ($176 million) in business and 50 million pounds in media advertising, this new plan could definitely impact their economy.

Custo Barcelona has chosen to restructure the color patterns found in nature to their own liking this Spring 2009. The bright and beautiful colors only found on male species in the wild have been stripped and thrown into a kaleidoscope of color to form Custo Barcelona’s new wild female spring fashions. Bold prints and vivid colors adorn everything in the women’s collection from dresses to jackets. On Thursday afternoon, Reem Acra transformed the Promenade into the attic of a royal palace. Each piece was an enthusiastic discovery of dazzling jewels and color. The opening piece was an intricately embroidered shirtdress with bright pink collar and cuffs, and the collection only became more glamorous.

An endless array of shimmering jeweled tops and jackets followed, paired with silk pleated skirts and charmeuse pants. Acra balanced the conservative silhouettes of the structured dupioni coats and tunics with electric colors like raspberry, tangerine, Mediterranean blue and flamingo pink. There were also caftans in subdued tans and simple cuts, and the surprising pinstriped double-breasted suit.

Acra is most famous for her bridal wear and gowns, and her latest collection did not disappoint. There was an array of beautiful, flowy dresses with plunging necklines in delicate, gold-embroidered organza; white dresses and floor-length skirts with bright watercolor design; and billowy pleated gowns in chiffon and silk. The closing piece was a beautiful pink jacquard taffeta strapless number with a fitting bodice and full skirt that drew appreciative applause from the audience.

By staying true to her affinity for exquisite embroidery, rich fabrics and jewels, Acra succeeded in creating yet another vibrant and alluring collection.

Style360 Wrap Party with Taryn Manning

After a week of celeb-studded shows all week, Style360’s Fashion Week came to a close on Wednesday night with the Wrap Party at the Metropolitan Home Showtime House, co-hosted by Caravan and actors Taryn Manning and Tara Jane.

Attendees included stars like Project Runway’s Kevin Christiana, Jack Mackenroth, Real Housewives’ Bethenny Frankel, NYCTV host Kelly Choi and DJ Josh Madden. The party also showcased looks from the spring collection of Manning and Jane’s clothing line, Born Uniqorn.

Renowned interior designers like Jamie Drake, Laura Kirar, White Webb and Vincente Wolf recently transformed the $20-million Gramercy Park townhouse into a modern and luxurious home that features rooms inspired by six Showtime Network shows. VIP guests enjoyed drinks and hors d'oeuvres while touring the “Tudors” living room, “Californication” study, “The L Word” boudoir, “Weeds” lounge and “United States of Tara” master bedroom.

On the top floor, mannequins lined the futuristic Media Room designed by Luca Andrisani. Manning and Jane, wearing their own Born Uniqorn designs, spent the evening discussing their favorite pieces. Jane pointed to the subtle snakeskin pattern on a long white ruffled dress with gold accents, and the 80s-inspired pyramid studs that line the pockets on a royal blue minidress.

“The more stuff hanging on the clothes, the better,” she said. “We love adding these details to our collections.”There were also jersey dresses with feather detailing on the straps, high-waist denim in dark washes, and loose cropped cardigans. “We’re so excited to be in New York right now,” said Manning. “This is one of our strongest collections to date.”

New York Fashion Week: LanVy

The beautiful Prince George Ballroom on East 27^th Street came alive all week as over 50 international designers presented their spring collections at Nolcha Fashion Week.

Nolcha works to create a global network of design talent that allows young designers a chance to showcase their work in fashion hub cities. After the huge success of previous fashion weeks in New York and London, Nolcha returns to the Big Apple with individual runway shows for award-winning designers, an Accessory Lounge, and the NY Profile, a night of 35 emerging British fashion designers in one show. On Wednesday night, the spotlight was on 1 of 3 by LanVy and Celestino by Sergio Guadarrama.

LanVy began its show with a thunderous percussion performance by female Taiko drummers dressed in red robes and urban clothing. The line stayed true to its Japanese inspiration and packed its collection with unique, geometric prints and stripes. Most striking on the dresses were the distinct back cutouts – some draped, some in giant diamond shapes covered with bright lace, others imitating a sharp, tuxedo-lapel design. The menswear stood out through details like contrasting cuffs on dress shirts and varied lengths on the loose, bell-bottom pants. What we loved most about the show were the hats: the cute bucket hats with bows, the floppy sun hats with bright flowers, and our favorite, the low straw hat with shaded peepholes for the eyes.

Celestino wowed audiences with his ultra-feminine dresses. Models walked to serene string music wearing minimal accessories, save the occasional Japanese parasol or traditional sword (yes, sword). The dresses were cinched in all the right places to accentuate curves, yet still gave soft, flowy silhouettes. There were interesting Asian influences, like the kimono-style corseting on dresses, the use of organza sashes criss-crossed around the torso, a waist-hugging sash on almost every piece. Guadarrama’s creativity shone through his play with shapes and textures – form-fitting busts and waists that flare out into mermaid tails or full skirts, in a mix of billowy and structured silk, satin belts and creative pleating with yards and yards of organza.

Nolcha looks like it’s bound to become an industry staple.

New York Fashion Week: Dash & Smooch

The Metropolitan Pavilion buzzed with excitement on Tuesday morning as press and VIP guests awaited Khloe Kardashian’s curated Dash & Smooch collection and Spice Girl Mel B.’s Ultimo lingerie collaboration. The crowd waited with anticipation not just for the clothes, but also for special guest models Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard and Danity Kane favorite Aubry O'Day.

Dash & Smooch began with models walking barefoot in cotton jersey and fleece loungewear by Scanty and Lauren Moshi, Oral-B toothbrushes in hand. The collection then moved to cocktail dresses in both demure and bright colors. We liked Foley & Corinna’s black dress with plunging V and gray fringe and Black Halo’s pleated dress and thin green belt. The audience also enjoyed Aubry O’Day’s walk in a yellow tee and embellished black denim, accompanied by her dog in her arms.

Recording artist Kreesha Turner followed Kardashian’s bow with samplings of her strong vocals from her debut album “Passion.” Then it was straight onto a blaring “Sexy Back” remix as the first model walked down the runway in mile-high studded sandals and printed, lace-frill bra and bikini bottom. A series of girly printed sets reminiscent of Victoria Secret’s Pink followed – and then came the satin. Polka dots were a recurring theme, along with bustiers with plenty of lace and pleated mesh detailing. The show ended with Ultimo knit skirts in tartan and leopard prints paired with bright satin bras. Our favorite look was the cute Tartan lingerie in Scottish plaid.

But the best moment had to be Amanda Beard’s strut in black satin lingerie, which showed off her amazing swimmer abs and toned legs. She didn’t hesitate to smile, and the audience cheered her on throughout the shows.

Rag & Bone mixed structured suits with street-chic wear to create the ultimate urban cool for spring. Tailored menswear heavily influenced women’s clothing, such as leather jackets, neckties, tailored dress-shirts with suspenders, and a female version of the men’s suit jacket. For every male look, there was an equal female counterpart for the women’s wear that still managed to accentuate the female silhouette without being overbearingly masculine.

For a spring/summer collection, Rag & Bone covered up lots of skin and the color scheme was unusually dark. It consisted of mostly dark grays and blacks with an occasional peek of blue, yellow, metallic, or white that subtly emphasized the spring qualities of the outfits. Though the designs were masculine in essence, it was still figure-flattering enough for the female models to confidently strut their stuff alongside the big boys.

Models “walked on water” as they strut their sexy swim suits down the runway. The runway gave the illusion that the models were gracefully walking on water. The collection consisted of typical swimwear pieces: the sexy one-piece, the body-baring bikini, and a sheer cover. It was the color palette of pretty salmon, pistachio, and white with the occasional eye-popping pattern of shapes that captures the eye. Although designer Amir Slama used soft colors and the typical swimsuit pieces, it was the detail of the designs that stood out. Slama used luxurious embellishments, such as Swarovski crystals that adorned the straps of some of the pretty-colored bikinis. Leather belts, big cuffs, and metal rings also served as great accessories that highlighted the lovely simplicity of the collection. Slama also used subtle folds that emphasized the structured swimwear of his collection. Slama used subtle amounts of sexiness from his Sao Paolo roots to create a swimwear that was both sexy and pretty and sure to be a hit on the beach this upcoming spring and summer.

New York Fashion Week: Erin Fetherston

Using white and pale pastels with occasional sequined pieces and puffs of chiffon, Erin Fetherston’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection was a light and airy take on spring. Sheer fabrics and muted cotton-candy colors created a whimsical and romantic collection that was reminiscent of Georgia O’Keefe’s soft floral paintings or cotton-candy clouds drifting in the sky.

The models and the clothing were innocently beautiful. Makeup artist Bobbi Brown made the models look fresh-faced with minimal makeup showing off their luminescent skin while their hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail. The first half of the collection consisted of simple pieces, such as tiered chiffon tops paired with sequined miniskirts and light-weight pants. However, the latter half of the collection was refreshingly girly with oversized fabric flowers on almost every dress that was reminiscent of Fetherston’s previous collections.

The frothy collection stays true to Fetherston’s feminine, dreamy designs of the past. Celebrity fans of Fetherston’s collections are Kirsten Dunst and Zooey Dechanel.

The Marc Jacobs 2009 Spring Fashion Show proved that like us, many stars have an obsession with this American designer. Jacobs dazzled his audience this year with mismatched prints, funky shoes, and of course, stunning complete looks. His show also featured interesting hats only Jacobs could pull off.

The star-studded crowd was treated to a funny-house type of runway with mirrors running down the middle of it. Models strutted in every color and every color and pattern combination imaginable. Tailored menswear inspired pieces were matched with feminine skirts and accessories. Big bangles, chunky necklaces, and all the other accessories in between indicated these would be the big trends this Spring. Obviously with stars like Kanye West, Nicole Richie, Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, and Jay Z being huge fans of Jacobs line, he needs no advertisement (although the lady Beckham is the face of his campaign). If these stars have any say in it—Marc Jacobs is sure to become and even bigger success than he already is.

New York Fashion Week: Jordache

It’s always fun to check out a denim line’s more casual fashion show. On Monday night, Jordache brought a very retro vibe to the Metropolitan Pavilion, complete with skintight denim and “Billie Jean” remix.

The girls sported big hair, red lipstick, patent pumps and gold jewelry against their electric body suits and high-waist jeans. There were silver bandeaus, sleeveless jumpers, tie-dye logo tees with bright pink acid-wash skinny jeans. To the delight of the audience, all the male models were shirtless, sporting straight-leg and carpenter skinny jeans in dark washes.

We especially liked the edgy black and grey denim with side zips, the slouchy off-the-shoulder tees, and the high-waist skirts. But the show stealer was the “Litewear” at the end: a series of tees each with one lit-up word spelling “You Got the Look” as each model strutted down the runway.

New York Fashion Week: Alexandre Herchcovitch

The Brazilian infiltrated New York City's Fashion Week with a collection that was a very interesting and complex mix of feminine and masculine. The feminine elements came in soft chiffon and ruffles and the masculine came in military inspired pieces. This softness contrasted with harder military elements made for a very thrilling and surprising show. However, it's still up for debate how wearable Herchcovitch's styles will be this spring.
